What was the deal with NATO and Ukraine?
Ukraine wants to join, but NATO exists only to encircle Russia, so Russia doesn't want that. It's never been a done deal, but by pushing in now, Russia avoids a situation where the west is more openly sympathetic to Ukraine. Countries with ongoing border disputes can't join NATO
Makes sense... Except for the part that they were supposed to be against the USSR and not the Russian Federation... Almost like it was never really about communism, so much as having a scapegoat for the failings of capitalism.
The west's/US's decision to not integrate the capitalist Russia as an equal partner in the capitalist world order, and instead relegating them to the imperial periphery, is just another product of western arrogance and moralism.
Yeah, of course. Regional billionaires in Russia are in opposition to the more globalized forced of western capital that would benefit from being able to apply external pressure to Ukraine.
