NATO literally has never had trouble with this. Even after the USSR fell and Russia was on its knees it was able to continue. Why would it be any different now?
Kinda, but not really, they spent smaller portion of gdp on nato than required. Rn germany already said they are going to pump their military budget, while previously they’ve avoided getting into Iraq even.
I see the US and China as the big winners. All of Europe is firmly back in the US camp. Countries like Germany that started to improve relations with Russia and China 1-2 decades ago are now as much US-sattelites as during the cold war. Eastern Europe completly relies on the US. Sweden and Finland might join the US camp. Russia will be isolated and look towards China for economic help.
The US is giving up a little on being the global hegemon but their grip on Europe has has tightended and Europe is still an economic powerhouse and a first grade prize. The US gets that prize by only sacrificing Ukrainians which is great for them. The EU however has proven to be really utterly impotent.
why are there people still trying to spin this as a win for NATO? we are seeing the paper tiger crumble right in front of our eyes.
Because now NATO's purpose has been re-energized.
This situation is exactly what NATO wanted. Russia goes wild and they get to beat the war drums which is very profitable for arms manufacturers.
