People in the 1980s wrote satirically things to the effect of "Americans can have entire conversations of nothing but film and TV quotes", or even advertising taglines! If you polled Adults on Western countries on a list of like 15 historical events vs film plots, I bet many would struggle to distinguish the films from reality.
