Tub of hummus

This hummus looks good but I just recalled something:

Has anyone else had an intense anaphylactic-like reaction to hummus before? I bought a small tub of in-house made and packaged hummus from a small health-food store and it had condensation on the inside lid and lots of liquid on top of the hummus (likely indicating improper sealing). Against my better judgment I ate some with normal crackers and had a weird throat constriction and narrowed vision and ringing in my ears. It was totally bizarre. Anybody know what that was???

I am not a doctor but for sure if you can get to some sort of doctor to find out if you got any allergies. My hummus has olive oil, lemon, chickpeas, tahini (which is olive oil and sesame seeds), salt and spices. I've no clue what exactly the store ones have but I imagine it's similar.

I wanted to get one of those allergy batteries but the local clinic said I had to have some recent event to justify it. :-
Also, while it took me time to work up the courage, I have been able to eat hummus since then, even home made stuff. So I think rapid-onset food poisoning is the culprit.

That's all definitely food poisoning. The liquid on top may have just been oil that separated out since it was in-house at a health food store, so they probably didn't use any stabilizers. Happens sometimes when I make hummus at home.

Ahh that makes sense. I had/have never experienced such rapid onset food poisoning, it usually takes a bit. Thanks!

Yep, salmonella usually takes several hours, but Staph can hit you in minutes. If it was within seconds, it may have been a food allergy, but that sort of thing is hard to guess at unless you can get an ingredient list or have an allergy workup done.

            Holy shit staph hummus.

Yeah, I thought it was an allergy thing because there were lots of allergic reaction symptoms (I forgot to mention tingling of the tongue) but I've been able to eat hummus since then with no similar reaction. Maybe it was one particular unique ingredient they added, but it probably was food poisoning.
