in the first ep the mono black villain plays double dark ritual into a bullshit OTK and this is the last real action sequence till episode 5 because all the heroes have to spend the character backstory eps playing artifacts and defensive enchantments
There was no darker or more evil creation in all the multiverse than that of the mana screw.
We had that solved back in 1994 with separate land and mana decks. You could draw from each as you liked.
Boy, as soon as people who weren't in our little group found out about that, pheeeew. We were doing it wrong. It wasn't just wrong, it was personally insulting to them that other people were playing the game they liked a different way.
It made me upset when I learned Magic called the land cards by their color and not their element. suggesting black cards were death cards was met with "But why would swamps represent death" and Immediately said "because stuff dies in swamps and turns into peat, and roman propaganda has us associating swamps with Malaria" and everyone in the vicinity was stunned by my intellect.
One of my coworkers recently got me back into MtG, we usually play commander once a week but I started putting together a pauper deck with cards like Anarchist, Enraged Revoultionary, Blight Sickle, Volcanic Hammer and some others, you get the idea.
I saw this problem constantly when we played in school. Just put more lands in your deck than the absolute bare minimum. You can't play those fancy cards you got without mana.
