All the shortage news is marketing, to boost up demand when they expect it to be low. I remember this exact thing last thanksgiving about turkeys, and I remember days after that there were tons of left over turkeys.

yep. work in grocery. there is an overabundnace of stuff. they refuse to lower prices though so i have to mark everything down at the store level just to get rid of it before it goes past date. our warehouses are full to bursting.

Shelf life of Halloween candy is probably 4-6 months. They're wanting to front-load demand before the fall in case things are worse. Buy your candy now, it'll be fine in October (three months). They can boost 3Q profits that way. Halloween candy is already being put out in places. If there's a shortage, how is that? They want people to buy before Sept 30. Expect Christmas season to be especially long too. Clearing summer inventory and trying to finish out the year strong.

They never sell out of candy anyway. What demand are they talking about?

Carloads of Kisses dumped on the ground. The people came for miles to take the chocolate, but this could not be. How would they buy candies at twenty cents a dozen if they could drive out and pick them up? And men with hoses squirt kerosene on the Kisses, and they are angry at the crime, angry at the people who have come to take the treats. A million people trick or treating, needing the candy—and kerosene sprayed over the foil mountains.

Turns out the Choco Taco thing was fake. A few people here were leaning towards it being marketing and they were probably right. This is probably marketing too

this article doesn't say the discontinuation is fake, just that choco taco was not discontinued because of cultural appropriation as some meme claimed because all American journalists do now is rate memes for truthiness

Yeah now that I re-read the last line you're right it doesn't sound like they're bringing them back any time soon. I need to learn to read better.

I would still like to file one 100% effective petition for an :im-vegan: Choco Taco. Is this the correct address?

Problem is that in most cases shortages are still profitable because scarcity increases demand, both material and perceived, and they may still make bank, maybe even moreso at less expense. :capitalist-laugh:
