      Random, but your post reminded me of this interview Chomsky did in 2019 where he talks about this manufactured idea of the cowboy as a means to create a gun market after the civil war. It's found here, specifically his answer to question #2 on guns.

      they were also largely mexicans and ate beans rather than meat due to being poor as hell. they were unionised too also not hyper individualistic as it takes a number of people to herd cattle
