This mall is a perfect microcosm of the greater American Experience™.

He said 'Why are people in here all the stores are empty'

And the reason, is, basically, malls are park substitutes in America. Go for a walk in air conditioning. Thats a good thing for people with disabilities, actually, because the ground is even and the temperature is regulated and there are plenty of places to stop and rest without worry for weather. Particularly people with lung and heart issues could benefit because the air can be filtered.

Honestly, I don't actually have an issue with malls. In a socialist society, you could put one near 13-14 story residential buildings and it serves many purposes. As a park, as a grocery store, etc. The issue with malls inherently lies in the fact that they are car centric and capitalist oriented. Thats why theyre failing. But if you designed areas around them and had residential areas in walking distance, theyre actually a great idea. But as it stands, this mall is... kinda in the middle of nowhere. All the residences are on the other side of a pretty large river, a cascade of neverending parking lots, and you gotta walk across a lot of areas that don't have sidewalks to get to it.

Holy shit, it's like an extremely unsubtle metaphor about the decline and death of the American dream but in real life.
