I came out to my mom last week and she's told me she's been "watching Jordan Peterson videos to help her understand what's going on with me." When I told her that I though he doesn't like trans people, she said "he doesn't dislike them, he just has a certain view of them."
I went and watched some of his videos on trans people and yeah it's just as awful as I expected. Obviously, this seems bad for me. Does anyone have experience or resources for de-lobster-izing boomer parents? Or just for helping boomer moms understand trans people, but from a supportive perspective?
My mom had some problematic opinions on trans people at one point. I showed her a Philosophy Tube video a long time ago, and unbeknownst to me she really liked the videos and ended up watching them every new release.
Then one week she texted me (you can probably guess when) "Oh my god I get it now" and we had a long talk where she was finally willing to listen to my thoughts instead of just hand waving everything I said.
I don't know how helpful any of this is, I'm a cis dude and my Mom tries really hard to understand my perspective but maybe it's a place you could start?
I honestly think her biggest problem was she doesn't know any trans people.

Oh nooo. There are some videos from various breadtube people explaining why Peterson is bad but idk what is boomer ffriendly. Also genderdysphoria.fyi has decent explanation of what is being trans if I remember correctly
Does she not get he is an unalloyed bigot who's whole life project is to genocide trans people?
Some boomer folk are receptive to 'Beau of the fifth column' on yt who has way better takes if I recall.
