I’m at a point where I’ve mostly accepted that the Cuban revolution might end in this century. Too many natural disasters, crippling sanctions, and weakening infrastructure isn’t making it any easier. I really hope I’m wrong.

It definitely isn’t looking good for Latin America. Petro in Colombia is going have a hard time, as is Honduras, Nicaragua, and Brazil. Mexico too.
Edit: I also worry about my country because if he goes after El Salvador, Guatemala is going to feel the spill-over effects with anti-migrant sentiment getting even worse.
Oh, God. Latin America, and especially Cuba, are going to suffer.
Her electoral performance is the worst since Dukakis lmfao
And just like him, history books will teach that she lost for being too “left” or “liberal” with the latter being true but not in the way they mean it
The fates of third-parties were sealed in 2004. They did better in raw numbers and percentage of votes in this election than they did in that one. Anyone expecting them to seriously reshape the political landscape was dreaming too hard. Both parties are as strong as ever and the political landscape won’t be changing within any of our lifetimes.
That doesn’t mean I think third-parties won’t occasionally have strong runs. They did consistently worse during the Great Depression and then George Wallace came with an unusually strong run for a third-party candidate. Despite that, people still largely voted for the Dems or Repubs.
Neither do I believe there’s anything particularly revolutionary coming out of there. Its proximity to South Africa is important, but that’s about it. Still, every country plays a larger role in what the domino effect might be from events like this.
Or Gary Peters from Michigan. Centrist, white, and has the Midwest vote!
Not sure if this is a bit or some kind of reference, but I have no personal relation to Mozambique. I just recognize Africa as being very geopolitically important while not getting enough coverage on how things are unfolding over there.
I’m glad Mozambique is getting more coverage on here. I was afraid that it would get buried under everything else with it being an African country most aren’t familiar with.
They said it was because “dunk tank” has racist origins, which it does, but idk I felt it was pretty excessive anyway. Almost nobody alive today even knows that and those that do are aware that it’s a term that hasn’t been used for over a century. It’s not even the same game anymore.
It seems the American election results have knocked many of our American comrades out of commission either through fear or political burnout. In the meantime, I’m hoping those of us in the Global South and elsewhere can continue to carry on. We’re used to our elections leading to shitty politicians.
I think Arevalo is the only good candidate Guatemala has been excited for since Colóm and he was more like a Joe Biden. Our politics have always been a shitshow and I think others in the global south can relate. After a while you shrug your shoulders and life goes on. More fights needing to be fought.
Regardless, American comrades have my best wishes and condolences. I hope you can continue to carry on the good fight once the initial fatigue wears off. If it does.
That makes sense. I knew this site was heavily American but I somehow didn’t think it was by this much.
Looking forward to seeing Maya Rudolph sadly playing the piano while singing Hallelujah.
Yeah I have some family who believe this. They’re kind of young so I just chalk it up as copium.
It does have a large Muslim/Christian population so it’ll be a while before that’s sorted out. It still is an anti-imperialistic gift that will be able to improve on those social conditions if they’re allowed to develop more.
Cuba and Venezuela originally weren’t great with queer issues but became significantly better over time.
Pretty much. I’ve heard younger Indians and Saudis refer to their older generations as “boomers.” Even Russian liberals call the generation nostalgic for the USSR “boomers.”
Did something happen on here?
Are people on this site just checked out from the election results? It feels a lot less busy than usual.
It’s incredible they even lasted this long. It’s too bad they aren’t located somewhere more favorable for them in the same way North Korea is.
