I'm in the middle of watching the original series for the first time ever. I know it's not really fair to compare the two since they were in entirely different eras of television but comparing them TNG is just so, so much better in every way, IMO.
Honestly TOS has been kind of a let-down for me. It's a reflection of the times it was created in but still, just rampant sexism on display. And other than Spock, I haven't found any of the other characters all that compelling.
There's a Futurama joke where Fry says something like "Star Trek was a show with seventy-nine episodes, and about twelve good ones", and it's basically a perfect description of TOS.
If I remember correctly from my watch through of TOS, no less than three episodes use logical paradoxes to destroy a villain computer and save the day.
