*Firefox gives you a burner phone number for $5 per month.

I really wish Firefox would stop adding bloated garbage to their browser like this. The best thing that Firefox has going for them is that they are the only large browser that is completely open source. Firefox should stay minimal. Every new bullshit feature they add to the browser makes the browser slower, invades user privacy, adds a new attack vector for exploits.

I agree, except that they need funding from somewhere. A modern web browser is pretty much the most complicated piece of software there is, and there's no way Firefox could compete without full time developers. Other big open source projects like Linux and GCC get free labor from big tech companies, but Mozilla directly competes with the big companies so they don't get so much help.

It's also true that Mozilla is a super wasteful organization, and the higher level employees get absurd salaries, but still good developers are expensive.

Headline is kind of misleading, this is just an offering from Mozilla (and obviously an associated extension), but this isn't baked into Firefox in any way.

At that rate it’s a good alternative to the google one.

Having another cell phone line is like $20 a month, plus having another cell.

If you do work that needs a phone number on a business card that’s a real problem and I’d rather pay the Mozilla ppl than Verizon or google.

I’ll probably end up using this.
