        For real, the first lesson my more-skilled-at-cooking friend told me was "dude, don't throw all your spices nonsensically at something, use some, but use them wisely"

          It kinda depends on cuisine. For example some Indian cuisines rely on blending an elaborate melange of spices to nail a specific flavor.

          I dunno if I forget a spice in an Indian dish with like 10 spices in it it is pretty noticeable.
