When I was younger I wanted to right stories. I started planning things out a few times in this kind of formulaic manner, and realized that all of my ideas were reactionary trash. They weren't going to be interesting as finished works. And then it clicked for me why so much media was also trash. A world created out pretense is just beating people over the head with the author's worldview. I didn't enjoy those works and I didn't honestly want to make more of them. That funneled me more toward "proper" art. And once in the art world, I realized that there is no market for art because consumers want power fantasies that reaffirm their biases. There are exceptions, but those authors are all skilled far beyond my caliber.

I now have intense reservations toward anyone expressing interest in fantasy worlds, from LotR to superheroes. I like Shadowrun but if someone else tells me they like it, I'm still going to interrogate them over why they like it lol. And I wouldn't blame them in the least if they did the same to me.
