Probably should have posted this earlier in the day... but I always heard that the folks in our German offices did this but I never got around to asking them about it. Apparently they think this is the funniest thing ever, idk.

No, that only happens during carnival. On the Thursday before Ash Wednesday, there is a recent tradition that women cut off the ties of men. So long as you don't go partying in a suit on the wrong day, that won't happen.
