Federation has been great for me developing better internet habits. Since every other post is directly or indirectly about federation, I spend less time scrolling though this site. Which is good, I’m still here quite a bit I really needed to cut back.

  • What sense of community do most churches promote?

A lot of churches offer a sort of “community in a community”. For example, if you are a reactionary, white, married couple (ideally with kids), some evangelical churches can plug you right in to a group of like 5-10 other couples who are basically identical to you. And if you’re in that demographic, doing social things only with people pretty much just like you is what you are looking for.

  • As an aside, I’m sitting with my dad right now. He has CNBC on and they’re talking about the new unemployment numbers and their expectations for the economy. I have a background in finance so I understand what they’re talking about. But since I’m a Marxist, it’s a bit like being an atheist and walking into a Pentecostal Sunday service where they’re talking about some literal interpretation of the Book of Revelation and then they start speaking in tongues. It’s all just so ridiculous.

It’s the Wall Street Journal, for one.

But also, these rags all are pay-to-play in some form or another. The quirky libertarian woman opinion writer type (popularized by McArdle, but I’ve seen others) absolutely has Koch brothers / think tank money behind them.

I worked at a family-owned frozen yogurt shop that gave me my best lesson in microeconomics and the costs of excessive regulation

I would love for her to go into detail into what she means by this. Small businesses face basically zero regulation anyway in the US. She must mean “I thought everyone else should have been happy to make only $3 an hour” or something like that.
