I'm not super interested in the conduct of the war other than understanding how US troops were basically all war criminals, and I have Nick Turse's Kill Anything That Moves for that. More explaining how US imperialism was the obvious reason and not "we have to save the Vietnamese people from the evil commies". A solid article or whatever would work too, I just like books.

    Hell in A Very Small Place by Bernard Fall isn't quite exactly this but it does have a lot of relevant information and gives you a good feel for how Vietnam was talked about in the 50s and 60s
