So all the kids nowadays are addicted to social media but their parents aren't

Imagine how fucked up the kids will be when their parents were also addicted to social media when they were younger

Then imagine how fucked up THEIR kids will be when their parents grew up thinking social media addiction was normal

If gen z is any indication, I wouldn't count on it.

Gen z is less tech savvy than millennials on average (except for video/photos). They're more up on trends but that's different from actually being able to troubleshoot tech issues or media literacy

idk how much of this is actual generational differences or ur lack of exposure to gen z. a lot of my friends, like me, are computer obsessed and can figure out anything computer-related. but, like every generation, the average zoomer doesnt even know how to access BIOS or open the command prompt

I've taught in high schools or colleges for about twelve years. I've noticed student's tech literacy declining from when I started.

Most people in every gen aren't good at computers. Some of every gen are great with them. I'm speaking of averages.

I think there's a material reason for this change. Technology has become slicker, less janky and more touch screen based.

Of course, we're both speaking in anecdotes, I'd be curious to look at actual research.

yeah i can see that. each innovation further abstracts the electronics behind the screen. i love living in a skinner-box-based society!

tech literacy is important but comp sci and related fields are crazy oversaturated. literally half my uni's college of science was comp sci. we dont need all these computer experts, but lack of tech literacy causes the mass mystification of these technologies which leads to trends like the current glorification of AI and cryptocurrency

but yeah, it would be interesting to see research on how significant this trend is

good points. there does seem to be a general trend of young people being pushed less toward STEM and more towards being dancing monkeys for the STEMlords. i cant wait for nerd gulags filled with PMC techbros if we ever get there
