So yeah, I'm pretty sure I just killed a tick in my house and I'm not really sure if I need to be doing anything? It was just the one so I don't know if there are any more.

My cat is an indoor cat, but my very outdoorsy cousin just moved into our basement so maybe came in with him.

It was also right by a window so maybe it crawled in through there.

Going to say that's probably it or it came in on it's own.

as others have said, once you verify there aren't any living on your body or the bodies of others in your house, you're fine. check yourself and your pets/people a couple of times over the next days.

ticks are incredible at catching a ride on fur and fabric. they climb up onto vegetation at animal height and then hold their appendages out (with their little hooks) to snag onto passersby. the technical term for this behavior is "questing" which makes me laugh every time i think about it.

macro shot of a tick questing:

"hail, traveler, and well met. might i accompany you to the castle?"

Either the cat or the cousin. You're good they're not going to breed in your home or anything. It's the season for ticks. I've just started taking them off my dog. 2 today already.

In most cases, if you see one bloodsucking parasite in your house, there's at least ten you're not seeing. :capitalist-laugh:

encourage the good arachnids to mercilessly hunt them down. befriend as many jumping spiders as you can. :arachno-socialism:

How big was the tick? Wood ticks don't carry Lyme disease, so if it was one of those you don't have to worry about that.
