"Socialism always fails when the dominant world superpower commits infinite resources to destroying it at any cost although even then not all the time! :frothingfash:"

The number of people who genuinely believe “lol if you’re so communist then why do you need food from other countries instead of doing everything yourself” is just mind boggling. These people will tell you to learn basic economics and think modern countries can be 100% self sufficient. Not even North Korea is

It's hilarious since they both claim that capitalism is when trade and commerce of any kind and then default to "not real capitalism" in the next breath.

Two of the reasons I commonly see is

      1. It’s Cuba’s fault for starving. The US doesn’t like to starve people, but they have no choice. Cuba could end sanctions any time by simply not being communist. It’s basically the reverse Ukraine justification
      2. Socialism doesn’t work because Cuba isn’t Juche and has to rely on global trade instead of growing an abundant of food in communes and insulin in their Beth tubs.

People literally don't think the sanctions are to blame despite there literally being memos from state department officials at the time the embargo began being like "yeah we're going to starve out cuba via sanctions to cause regime change" like they FUCKING SAY IT

Pretty much every brutal sanction has been accompanied by a memo saying “our exact goal is to starve the population into regime change.” It has worked before, but it also causes pushes dissidents into submission to the status quo because finding food and overthrowing the state can’t always be done simultaneously. Like look at Venezuela, even the right wing opposition has condemned the US for its sanctions
