I was helping design a portion of a bus rapid transit system, and when we were showing some local officials a model of the station, one mentioned that they didn’t want heaters in the bus stops so that they wouldn’t attract homeless people looking for a place to sleep. Mind this is in the Midwest so the heaters are a winter necessity. Just the absolute cruelty was astounding. Though tbf pretty par for that municipality. I quit that job before the project finished- pretty sure they put the heaters though- so fuck that person.

At that level of government, American planners are mostly contracting out their work to incompetent contractors.
