      Don't be silly.

They're losing more than just the Donbass.

I don't think Russia has any reason to push beyond it, maybe the region south of the Dnipro but everything across the river is Ukrainian ethnicity and Ukrainian nationalist. It's not governable. They would be under a constant insurgency forever supplied by the west if they attempted it.

They aren't map painting. They will get what's viable to control and stop there, then aim to influence a neutral puppet regime in between them and nato.

They've already legally annexed more than just the Donbass. I doubt they'll give up Kherson and Zaporozhye.

That's what I mean by south of the Dnipro, I think they will be on the table for negotiation though.

Found out recently Crimea was an independent country after the fall of the Soviet Union until they were overthrown by Ukraine. So they were part of it for like 20 years

Not quite independent, just autonomous with Ukraine.

No yeah for sure. Not saying that is the reason they should be able to. I just mean that the short time frame gives context to the situation and is part of why they were so determined to leave Ukraine. That and the Ukrainianization upon the population of primarily ethnic Russians.

The civil war in the Donbass where out of control neo nazi army regiments have tried to kill them also contextualises why they may wish to leave

if Ukraine really wanted to join NATO they'd relinquish claims on territory Russia claims, and sponsor 'independent' proxy governments for any remaining territories/gains they make

this would be really funny to me because there'd be like 3 proxy governments on each side but then we'd all die when Ukraine entered NATO so please don't do that

i don't think any geopolitical conflict is truly complete until a proxy government sets up a proxy government :sicko-hyper:

They probably wouldn't care much about that when the wars over and they are made to focus on china instead.

My bet is they just pivot to whatever consent is being manufactured, most likely China although I won't discount a pivot back to Venezuela or maybe Iran

The aim of this entire thing was to get control of Ukraines resources and land and provoke Russia in the meantime. Letting them join NATO will put them on a more equal standing with the west.

In the show, Dr. Han/USA ends up being fired and the Good Doctor gets what he wants.

Therefore US will no longer be part of NATO but Ukraine will be.

The only bothsidesism I'll be engaging in is to point out that truly, both sides in this war have revealed their abysmal meme game.
