What's the depth rating for the sub? Do you trust it?

4,000meters. Yes, I trust it. I especially trust our extensive testing and real time acoustic and strain monitoring system. We can detect any anomaly well before we reach a critical pressure. We know of no other sub that is so well instrumented.

we, uh, monitor the sounds. and the strain. its all very safe and very advanced you wouldnt understand very-smart

I saw one article where they said the machine has to stop its descent to do the acoustic structural measurements shit, and that they planned to pause and get readings every hour

Which sounds fucking crazy, that is nowhere near often enough I’d think. A fucking lot can change in an hour, and when the thing reaches its limit you know it’s not gonna be a “oh, we better deal with this soon”, but instead an essentially instantaneous rupture

I do know that actual non-failure engineering projects can use sounding hammers and acoustic shit like that to assess the structural soundness of tanks for fluids etc., in general it is a valid technique. But it looks like in this instance it was a pretty big flop

    this dumbass:

we know of no other sub that’s this well instrumented

Yes, we were going to spring for the $1000 dollar warhawk joystick for operation of the submarine but I think the $37 (Prime sale) Logitech controller is actually a massive improvement for my design.

Prior submersible experience is not required as we have an extensive training program and a number of subs used for training.
