ATLA is obviously a highly analogized and fictionalized version of the Russian Revolution. Aang is Lenin and the Bolsheviks. The Ethnic Russians(fire nation) were ruling over the other nations in the "prison house of nations" over the native Siberians (the water tribe), the central Asian peoples (the Earth nation). And Aang overcame and ended the rule of the Fire Nation's Tsar (fancy word for emporer).
But the Yugoslav war was actually Code Geass. It is a bizarre and confusing fighting and betrayals between multiple sides, who, despite their differences and hatreds could still see the truth. That Britain was evil.
