I'm hosting a project zomboid server with a few friends and would love if more people played. We use a bunch of mods so I recommend modchecker to see what mods to download. IP: 173.0.151.92 Port: 17100
Neat. I'm in.
No idea if I have the right mods or not, does it not do that automatically? I've seen other servers that do.
It might download them automatically. I'm not super tech savvy. And nice! Maybe we'll see you around!
Hmmm I don't think so. I think unless it's setup for it you have to have a walkie talkie/broadcast radio turned on for others to hear, they also need one turned on. I don't know if there are ranges on them either lol.
I will keep awooooooing into the radio and see if someone responds
Anywhere people are chatting other than in-game? Would be useful for when the server is down etc (like now). :3
Not really, just in here. Sorry I made an announcement in game but it was quick.
We might benefit from one. I think the problem with chat is that "general" is disabled, should be a server setting I think. Right now only Server and Local are enabled which seems to be server messages from admins and very close proximity.
despite the archaic graphics, this game did a really good job of scaring the absolute piss out of me when I played it
Pretty sure it was supposed to be a Sims 1 mod that got way out of hand.
It was originally a zombie drama story with much worse graphics but the same kind of faux-3D universe, and then the devs decided to make the most detailed zombie apocalypse emulator to ever exist
Ooh, it's been ages since I played PZ - ever since a MP game I had with a couple of comrades died off because of IRL stuff. That, and the NPC update taking its sweet time
I played this game a little like 10 years ago. Do zombies still magically find you even though you are standing perfectly still in a house with all the windows blinded and no noise being made? I got overwhelmed because the game wouldn't give me any time to get my bearings or catch my breath and it made figuring out the mechanics and stuff really difficult for me.
They must have updated the zombie mechanics. The game itself can still be a bit overwhelming but the zombies are a bit more forgiving. They usually don't come after you now unless you've seen them or could've seen them.
Yeah I'm pretty sure I played like pre-pre-alpha. Probably due to give it another try.
The game is so much better than it used to be, like absurdly better. You can even adjust zombie settings like hearing, strength, toughness, speed, population, and sight
I think once you install it using steam workshop you just join the server and it will auto download.
It might be. I can look into turning that off. I'm not very savvy and a lot of stuff is defaults.
For dedicated servers it's just another bat I guess but for servers hosted through the game you have to set a flag when launching the game. Me and someone else figured it out in bazingabrain's discord but I don't remember exactly how it was done.
Looking into it, I can't host it without needing steam because it downloads the mods through steam. I'm sorry!
I got a car! Found some gas for that pickup. I have not found a two-way radio yet, would be fun to agree on a frequency to talk on, maybe 100MHz?
Awesome find! I like that frequency. I've turned our walkie talkie to that.
Oh nice, i'm in. Is there a spot where people can try to get to, or a specific radio frequency to talk?
I haven't really set up a zone or anything. Just struggled to survive the first few days I played haha.
You wanna be careful if other people are on the server with different timezones, because of a combination of things :
- you still have sleep turned on, where you need to sleep or you are tired
- sleeping makes the in-game clock fast-forward when everyone is sleeping or no one else is on the server
- Zomboid has an internal series of events, so to speak, and as time goes by the world becomes much harder to survive in.
So you could have someone logging on after a day or two, and suddenly in-game a few weeks have gone by, the water's shut off, the electricity's gone and zombie hordes are plaguing most cities making them impossible to survive in without good gear.
I have the power and water set to go off after over a year to watch out for that. I changed that and zombies don't respawn. If it gets too boring I can turn that back on but I figured those two settings will make it more fun for everyone.
Ok I don't know if that's a new kind of event but I heard someone scream and get eaten lmao, I think most players spawn in the same residential area of that central town. I've got a decent spot, a pickup nearby I got the key to and I just need to get some gas.
Logged off for now, Got an ok start at the north-east corner of the residential area with high wooden walls. I've got the key to a pickup nearby and need to find gas. There's a lot of zombos around and I don't really have a good weapon, but I got curtains on everything so it's relatively safe for now, need to start getting wood and nails to board up a few things.
I think everyone starts in the same little town. It'd be cool to make a big safe house or safe town or something. I was planning on going to Louisville.
Road-trip, road-trip!
Going to louisville is a fun quest, it's a long way from muldraugh! I know muldraugh pretty well, got a character that lived for a bunch of months and never went too far from that part of the map.
I went to louisville a few times but never settled there, it's much more tense. If you're not careful/experienced you get swarmed very quickly, and once you start being chased there are so many zombos everywhere you're not likely to find a safe spot before being exhausted. You need strats, often a way of making a noise distraction, etc. Or a good team that knows how to fight, or a shit-ton of ammo but even then the sheer amount of zombies in a place like louisville makes it hard to ever really "clear".
Zombies respawn over time in any cell that hasn't been visited by a player in a little while, depending on your sandbox settings that can be a few in-game hours, days, weeks, etc. It's hard to ever be entirely safe, even very well built safe-houses or areas will have zombies appearing in them if they don't have players in them for too long. The game's better than it used to at this process and you have less instances of zombies weirdly spawning inside places where they should not have been able to get in, but afaik it still happens.
Anyway, going to louisville is a pretty fun adventure and it can be quite difficult. Even with good gear and a good car, you get stuck in the road in places with a lot of car jams, or at the military/quarantine checkpoint around louisville.
Well after that little adventure up to those farms, the bite got the better of me and I got zombified. Thank you to that person and sorry about your brother, it all went to shit so fast.
It was! No worries, that was a much better end than what I would have got otherwise, I knew I was probably dead when I got bit on the arm and immediately infected.
Is this still around? I fucking love zomboid. Anyone still playing?
No, i lost my job and stopped hosting the server. Im planning on getting it up and running again when the next big update comes out.
idk but there are some folks on a discord channel I am in that has a lot of hexfolks in it that has a server if you wanna join it.
Idk if I have time to actively participate in a server but I'd happily take an invite to play on it when I can
Server down? Can't seem to login to it even though it shows up. Gets stuck infinitely "Getting Server Info". Odd since I can see and ping it.
That's really weird! I restarted it. Hopefully it fixed now. I'm sorry!
Yep, appears fixed. That's alright not your fault. Just servers being quirky as usual
I got a steam key for cheap and spawned in Muldraugh, do we have anything planned or are we just sorta doing our own thing?
Also is there a way to see what the mods do?
there's no multihit?!
I have multihit turned off as it's the default. But I can turn it on if people want. I think most people are doing their own thing. I made a journey to Louisville and I'm starting a base there tonight.
I joined (both hexbear and this Project Zomboid server) about 30 minutes ago, is there no real way for us to communicate globally outside of this thread?
I just updated it. It should have global chat now. It was a holdover from old settings I had before
I've played with multihit on for so long I forgot it was even an option lol. Personally I like multihit a lot
I lost my keys by accident, if you find the keyring of Alexi Fae please pick them up and put them in my room. It must have been somewhere in the louisville apartment base. Problem is that it had the key to my van on them so now I can't go anywhere without them.
Is it easy to get into? The game looks wonderful but the systems and depth look a bit daunting...
It's a bit rough at first. But a part of the fun is dying. If dying over and over to learn how to survive+build a world that makes survival sounds fun it's a super fun game.
