I don't like AOC but this is at least good, if ineffective.

I wonder why the mainstream media didn't criticize AOC for this?

(I think I already know the answer, tbh.)

Fujimoristas (ultra-right wing pro-us) removed Castillo from the goverment when he tried to close the congress (In Peru a president can do that).

There were massive protestes and most of the country outside Lima was in a state of chaos. Some policemen and soldiers went awol. The US fears that they will lose their grip on the Peruvian oil companies.

The only new thing that i can remember seeing, was that the supreme court decided to say that asktually Castillo was removed because he was corrupt, so it's ok to keep him inside a military base for no reason.

There has been a pretty seizable deployment of US forces in Perú, for now they're doing "exercises" with the Peruvian Armed Forces.

      Article in spanish:

      https://www.aviacionline.com/2023/07/a-10-warthog-desplegados-por-primera-vez-en-sudamerica-para-el-ejercicio-patriot-fury-en-peru/

In this case, A-10s were deployed in Perú for the latest rounds of exercises (which is NOT a minor thing btw). I think this is part of Resolute Sentinel drills, Marines are also deployed in Perú right now.

There is a long history of US presence in the region. From US military bases in places like Colombia and Paraguay to joint military exercises throught the years, from US Army personnel arriving and acting as "advisors" to the US Navy sending in an aircraft carrier to the southern atlantic and training with Argentine and Brazilian pilots at the same time. This exercise in particular doesn't include Argentina but it does include the UK, kinda sus if you ask me.
