I've been playing BG3 since I was first able to find a torrent, using the fitgirl repack, and I think I'm going to buy this one. To play online of course, but also to support the devs for making a damn decent game.

Would really like not to lose my progress - think it'll transfer without any problems?

It's a DRM-free game so I don't see why not. When the pirated copy is literally the same file as the Steam copy it makes sense that it would work.

If they were smart they'll make sure it does. I have done this before...tried a game by pirating, bought it, realized my save doesn't work, refunded it, and just went back to playing the pirated copy. You could take that route too just make sure you're buying on a platform that will allow you to refund no questions asked within a certain period

Probably. As far as I'm aware, cracks usually just alter the executable to prevent DRM and online checks. If you're buying a copy on Steam, you can even copy the pirated files over to your Steam directory and do a verify files, and it should update without downloading the entire game again.

Test it. Give a copy of your saves to someone with a legit copy and see if they can load your save.
