The entire second paragraph is literally just the same old realization that time is a wheel that moves ever forward crushing and turning to dust all that humankind has ever or will ever achieve.

I guess when your idea of an ideal past is sometime in the last 20 years, because you're like 30, and only have context for that time, there is only childish and horny to choose from to reinforce your beliefs that the past was better.
