Honestly, I think more than anything, the western left just doesn't know much about China. Once I learned more about China, I've become more critical about western narratives and have actually grown to admire the PRC project under Xi.

oh absolutely, people that got into socialism like a few months ago just dont have the ability to instantly get caught up on virtually everything in the world, and they should acknowledge that. its taken me years to be more fully up to date on everything and even that was with a ton of studying and actively pursuing learning about the world, which the vast majority of even leftists in the us dont give a shit about. The mistake many western leftists make is thinking they've become enlightened for having figured out that capitalism is bad, but refusing to fully denounce and work on deprograming the full extent of the propaganda they've been indoctrinated with and actually engage honestly with what socialists and communists who have spent their whole lives in this struggle have to say. Americans thought they were right about everything in the past, and now some changed but they still think they're right about everything again when it comes to their ideas of socialism.

The ironic thing being that Saddam actually did kill a lot of people.

Not that the country that killed even more with sanctions ever gave a shit.
