I might have misremembered and attributed it to Baron Cohen in error but he did a roundtable with Armando Ianucci, Stewart Lee, Harry Enfield and a few others for the radio times in the UK and I would have genuinely bet money he was the one who talked about being expelled for writing about the communist manifesto. If I've mixed it up that's entirely on me but it was a genuine mistake.
I don't know the truth of any of that. I know that he's friends with Pamela Anderson though, and she's a weirdo left-adjacent sort of person. So my guess is that he's probably similarly weird and sort of left.
