"To give the devil his due, fascism was ruthlessly efficient in times of unrest and in the organization of national resources, bringing stability and security to the people." That's incredibly far from correct that it's laughable. For example, Germany's economy under fascism was "completely unsustainable" and not at all "efficient."
This quote, however, is pretty funny.
Fascism's unique effects combined with both of America's unique military units becoming available in the Modern Era allows this particular civilization can achieve a massive mid-to-late game military powerspike.
They weren’t efficient. They are hyper-neoliberal capitalist dystopias of corruption and autocratic mismanagement
Yes but the liberal myth of the genius Nazis is extremely dangerous
Yeah fascists are famously bad at logistics and long term planning, and have run their economy into the ground literally 100% of the time.
Calling Capitalism “Democracy” is also a fuckload of ideology. Communism is more democratic than capitalism.
It’s also a civic that everyone has to take, and the ideology/government choice for capitalism is called “democracy”.
Just so much unabashed ideology. Democracy and capitalism civics should be swapped.
Wish there was a mod just to correct the dumbass bad politics baked into the game
How dare you utter that word in this holy community. G*mers are a scourge.
Something always felt weird about playing Civ. It's too grand in scope, it's really weird to play as "America" or some shit when you are in the Neolithic age husbanding animals.
This review of the series (done before 6) does a good job explaining why it's a bad representation of human history (it's cause it's done through the lens of imperialism, making each win state be some form of domination).

So, is it just me, or is Civ VI -- especially with the Rise and Fall DLC -- an incoherent, over-complicated mess? In some ways, it feels like a natural progression from what they were doing with IV and V, but they just turned it up to 11 and then started adding in more and more shit. The AI is definitely a step up over past games with the grievances system, but districting, civic stacking, the revamped tourism system (fucking rock bands), and so forth are a fucking lot to juggle.
I rather like the gold age and new city conversion mechanics, wish I was good enough to use them right
I feel like formula that worked for civ needs to change. The overall scale of the game is too incoherent now.
a solely materialistic approach to problems
Lmao as opposed to what???
You have to sprinkle some unguent on the tractor and ask the Machine Spirit for spritual guidance to your farming problems, obviously.
With the erosion of personal freedoms and a solely materialistic approach to problems, most communist nations fell behind in the race to progress. Didn’t help that the bureaucracy too often proved corrupt and inefficient (in part, due to the apparatus of state security) and that paranoia led to a massive (and expensive) military complex.
This describes the modern day US almost perfectly.
It serves as a counter of sorts to Fascism
At least they got that right.
