Honestly, I woulda probably told myself the exact opposite. I'm now overspecialized and I can't find a different career path for a damn since I now fucking hate my job and have next to zero transferrible skills.
I ended up working as a histotechnician (don't ask me how) and lemme tell you the possible alternative paths are next to none. Within a specialized genetics role it really depends where you're working. Hospital labs are a reasonably stable pathway. Private medical research companies vary wildly. Otherwise you're stuck in professional academia research forever. I can't speak for much else as I don't have much first-hand experience.
