Everybody should move to California or the PNW. I think you’re overestimating the influence and power of the far-right, by quite a bit.

I can’t see a future Cascadia that isn’t socialist, technocratic, and deeply influenced by trade with Asia - white supremacy is unpopular and extremely unlikely to take deep roots in a near-future autonomy movement.

      what makes you so sure?

I’ve spent my entire life living in the PNW, in both the US and Canada. I’ve been involved with people who are definitely Cascadian secessionists.

Racial conflicts are still active in the suburbs and rural areas, but open white supremacy is deeply taboo, and sincere ethnonationalism is absolutely unheard of - just crackpot shit.

Over the past 60 years, the racists have been pushed deeper and deeper into rural areas, and effectively have no political influence beyond occasionally driving their trucks into the suburbs to smash windows and intimidate immigrant neighborhoods.

PNW rural chuds are impoverished, powerless and easily taken care of - because for the most part, they’ll support Cascadian nationalism - and as the chuds are not organized, competent or popular enough to lead a Cascadian secessionist movement, I can’t see the extreme-fringe white nationalists being a real issue - again, it’s just not popular, and these groups cannot come to unity with the vast, vast majority of people who live in the PNW.

Unless the indigenous tribes in the area are given sovereignty over themselves and their lands, Cascadia will just be more settler colonialism under a different flag.

The poor can't really afford to choose where to live so you'd just have the wealthier leftist move to an area and immediately displace whatever working class used to be there. It'd basically be a repeat of the same process that made chapo and the rest of the NYC/California lefty media clique.

No one gives a fuck about appalachia and it has a history of leftist revolts you may be able to kindle

Fr tho, appalachia (WV and Eastern KY especially) were once major places of support for socialist activism from a labor standpoint. If I were to tell 1000 PSL members and families to relocate somewhere, that's where I'd send them.

Yeah I just made this post before scrolling down. Appalachia has the history, the culture, the resources, and it is incredibly underestimated by both sides of fascists.

Definitely some very conservative and very scary pockets of the PNW. Oregon pretty much is a red state except for its northwestern slice. Maybe start by balkanizing along municipal lines, federating the municipalities, and then trying to go from there?

I do worry that in the event of balkanization the remnants of the federal government would start a narrative that the PNW has become China- or Russia-controlled and use that as an excuse for military intervention. This is why, frankly, the right could be a valuable resource to leftists who want to balkanize. MAGA chud types hate liberal western areas and would probably be on board to kick them out. They may also be less interested in trying to take them back. On the other hand, Biden, Pelosi, and similar types would happily roll tanks into Portland or Seattle if it meant keeping senate seats.

Last thought - is there room for cooperation in this space with indigenous people who want their land back and increased sovereignty? To be honest, I know very little about IP politics, but this seems like an area of shared interest.

They'd do it just for fun because they're blue republicans. There's no difference between red fascism and blue fascism, both parties in the US fucking suck.

The imperial core will collapse in on itself far before any sort of revolution transpires within it, I think. Balkanization may grow out of a foreign power annexing parts of the U.S., but it will not be brought on internally. Governmental war power is simply too strong without assistance from other superpowers.

Pretty sure the left's version of the Pacific Northwest is also the Pacific Northwest. Plenty of support on the ground for us there from what I've been told by friends in the area. If we have to fight some CHUDs, so be it.

the title confuses me. the PNW is in the US.

concentrating people is usually the goal of communes and the like but they tend to have a recuperative effect by distancing people from the communities they have ties to and primarily drawing in people who actually just want to escape.

I don't think it's impossible, it's just easier once you're already working from within a revolutionary org, a la the Black Panthers. but like, even they got really weird / outright awful at times, so the cultiness is hard to avoid.

    Shoutout from Portland dawg. Anyways

I really hope the South radicalizes. It would be so fucking dope if like, Louisiana became socialist and I could have an open container at 4AM. Or Alabama or whatever state it is where you can smoke indoors still.
