I am personally for radical direct democracy, nothing less, nothing more, because I view the political as trumping the economic, feel free to purge me once the revolution is there but I am interested if there are other “alternative” takes

I consider myself a leftist but I don't believe Communism is going to happen, the material conditions have changed too much from Marx's day and they're only going to change more as we advance into the future. IMO the future isn't going to have states going away, we're going to end up with a bunch of AI-assisted centrally planned states of variable size depending on how climate change goes. We'll probably reach the transition stage to communism and stall there for a while until something else happens to change the material conditions and we transition to a system Marx didn't predict.

my opinion is that communism will happen regardless of the way history turns out. it will either be billionaires getting a bunch of AI cops, engineers, and armies and culling the rest of us, thus giving them communism, or us doing that and not getting murdered

assuming, of course, that technology continues to advance

Any realistic useful AI still requires human support structures, and while billionaires are absolute ghouls they still have personal senses of morality and have to justify their actions to themselves somehow. Frankly, I doubt most of them would be down for open direct genocide, and I think that if they tried that plan the state apparatus would probably step in to preserve it's own power.

          im aware

and nah i think youd be surprised at how psycho billionaires are, obviously the politicians and key people would be excluded from the purge

I just disagree with that, but you can believe what you want.

I should also note that I'm somewhat biased against Communism, in that I've never really actively hoped for it like I imagine a lot of users here have. IMO Communism is an ideal for nuerotypicals, but for my autistic mentally ill ass not much would really change. I'm already permanently alienated from 99% of people because of how my brain is wired, and no method of societal organization is gonna fix that. Not that I want to be fixed anyway.

Really, if America suddenly became a communist utopia tomorrow, my quality of life would improve like.. about as much as it'd improve if America suddenly became a social democracy with good disability checks, I think.
