Things that are true:

Accounts can be registered with a fake phone number since it isn’t verified At least some media has GPS location embedded There are efforts to archive as much posts and media as possible currently ongoing Drivers license photos are required for verification Things that are not true:

Drivers license photos are public facing and can be scraped (in reality they cannot, and are not being archived) Millions of administrator accounts are being created by the archivers (the archivers are using regular accounts or public facing data)

      Facebook wanted my driver's license or passport to prove my identity at one point and that was the last time I ever tried to log on to facebook.

          I'm trying to remember exactly why. I feel like it was because I hadn't logged on in forever and wanted to "protect my identity" or some BS.

          They gave you an option to say "I don't have a license", but their suggestion was then to upload a picture of your passport. Lmao

            Are you from Europe by chance? I think I heard this being a thing they did in Europe but tbh I haven’t been on fb since 2015 so I’m ootl a bit

                  same bullshit happened to me back in the early days of COVID. i was pretty extremely online, so it wasn't lack of use. also, i am a US-ian in the US. my name on FB wasn't real, but wasn't like Haywood Jablowme. think Bichael Grundleson.

                  anyway, one morning go to inject the feed and it wants my fucking ID. and i'm like "nah" so then it wants my passport.

                  and that was the end of me being on facecrook.
