I was about to translate the dialogues in this scene but why bother? The actors are so fucking good that you probably won’t even need that to understand everything (just know that the dark haired woman and the guy are mother and son, and the short haired woman is their “clinically shy” neighbor): the noise and the silence, the shame and the shamelessness, the fear and the love, the embarrassment and the acceptance.

Dolan is a Quebecer director so I don’t really know how well known he is in the US. His work has been acclaimed for years now in the French-speaking world.

Chapos might be interested in Laurence Anyways, epic drama on the love life of a trans woman and the love story with their heterosexual girlfriend they had before starting their transformation. Here is a scene from the movie I hesitated to post instead, with title “When you finally go back to brunch, but your girlfriend has a penis”.

:trans-heart:

I definitely prefer the first movies of his career. They are the most arthousish though, so not so accessible maybe, be prepared.

Laurence Anyways and Mommy are defintely the peak for me. (2 proper trailers for you)
