I mean, I'm not surprised Americans misuse the term "banana republic". It's not like American schools would actually teach where that term came from in the first place or ANY of the awful shit we did in the 20th century in Latin America.
We learned about them in AP US, but it was brief & then hey the depression & new deal helped, but really the boost industry got during WWII saved the economy, new deal just helped poor people make ends meet.

banana republic is a term that makes no sense for example brazil is a bean country this COUNTRY IS MOVED ON BEANS AND RICE but i imagine the intent is just making it seem we are all mad because of them stealing our bananas and not the whole activelly damaging our democratic institutions for small long term profits like americans do
