Okay I get like the renaissance of the drive in cinema or the drive in concert. It makes enforcement of distancing ridicolously easy for a big amount of people.

I get why people might rather take the car than public transport.

But people keep doing like small, organized meet ups- but car. Just read the news today about an internal election by the SPD in Papenburg which they did with everybody except a few people sitting in cars.

And good god the pathology of it is making me go insane. IF YOU HAVE THE SPACE FOR PEOPLE AND CARS, YOU HAVE THE SPACE FOR PEOPLE AND DISTANCE FOR CHRIST SAKES. Also get fucked if you want to participate in internal elections but don't have a car, allthough that's pretty much par for the course for the SPD.

Seriously good fucking god imagine looking at a pandemic and going "...but car?". Just 0 thought put into it, the car is not only freedom, it's apparently morphed into the solution for literally everything. Global Pandemic? Just apply car.

In the summer, where I live, calls by politics, media and citizens was for the police to crack down on people gathering in the park because gatherings of more than x people (this value changed) were forbiddenn due to infection risk. But those dang poors kept going to the park instead of sitting in their private garden with friends. And thus, the police did, law and order, empty parks all around.

Guess what, now there's unorganized large scale car meets at empty parking lots in the city.

And everybody is calling this a good thing and how it's great all those poor people in their literal 50.000€ cars have found a safe outlet to meet up and do something, the police is allowing it to happen under slight monitoring, there's social workers coming out there to provide a contact point.

Literally the same fucking thing happening, except it's not only fine when car, we actively support it when car!

Mass covid testing also being 100% "drive though!" (car based) also annoyed me. There wasn't even a mention of an option if you couldn't or didn't want to drive, car culture is so baked in.
