Sugar dating is a form of sex work which can lead to many problems. Often sugar daters are not as at risk as those who has sex work as their main source of income but they run some of the same risk of social shaming, sexual assault etc. You can be a lib and reduce this to a question of individual morality but the root of the problem is that capitalism creates an unequal society where for some sex work becomes the only way to a relatively comfortable life, or even to bare subsistence.

Shaming sex workers or their clients, or sending the police after them does nothing to resolve the underlying economic injustice behind these relationships.

I disagree that they’re at less risk. As a sw’er, sugar babies can be... very very naive. They don’t know the in’s & out’s of SW because it’s not marketed as sex work. And a lot of men on sugar websites are men who couldn't make it past escorts’ screenings because sugar babies don’t usually know you have to screen. They put themselves in very dangerous situations unprepared. It’s almost the exact same danger as an escort because im the end it is simply escorting but in a slightly less stigmatized way.

You make some very good points. Sugar daters might not be as dependent on the income from sex work to get by but they lack the skills and knowledge other sex workers use to stay safe.

Yeah it’s really sad because many young women get into it thinking it’s easy and safe. But it’s not much.

That is certainly a possibility. It seems that sugar dating is a concept that includes many different types of relationships and that one should exercise caution when making blanket statements about it.

Shaming sex workers or their clients or clients

This part is kinda new for me see on a leftist forum. The usual narrative is that sex workers are doing sex because capitalism forces them to and criminalizing sex work or being a client harms the workers. Never seen blanket defence of clients.

I'm not claiming they are upstanding members of society but rather that if one is to improve conditions for sex workers trying to punish or shame clients into being better people is not going to help much. If everyone stopped buying sex tomorrow the injustices of capitalism that drives sex workers to sell sex in the first place would still be there.

Sending cops to chase clients is a bandaid. At most it will remove an unsightly manifestation of class society from public view. Giving sex workers a viable alternative will do much more material good.

Idk maybe it's not just plain prostitution but actually there's some kind of kink mixed in

It is just full service escorting, except with a single client, a lot more emotional labor, and the people who do it tend to be less aware of the dangers associated with escorting

Are you asking whether replicating that dynamic in a kink context is inherently problematic? Because as long as the economic coercion isn't real and is just a part of the roleplay you're absolutely fine
