The Leftovers is an interesting take on the post-apocalyptic genre that deals with the psychological breakdown resulting from 2% of the world's population disappearing. The writing and acting are both fantastic, it becomes very surreal, and the third season is so fucking good. Massive spoilers, but one character's arc parallels Job from the bible and ends with him confronting god as a man who lost everything for his faith. Such a brilliant show.

It's Planet Namek, because it's the most well constructed story arc. The Saiyan Saga is good, but basically a prelude to the Namek Saga. The Android/Cell Saga suffers a bit from this clown car effect where Toriyama was forced to keep introducing new villains until his editor found one he liked. The Buu Saga has some strong moments, but much of it is incoherent and random.

It's probably the most accurate and realistic look at modern american cities and the corruption of their institutions (police, education system, political system) under capitalism, especially in regard to the War on Drugs. Each season continues to storylines but introduces on a new institution and new characters (first cops and drug dealers, then stevedores union and white working class, then political system, then education, and finally the media). It's extremely well written and thoughtful to the point where they foreshadow things literally seasons ahead of time.

It can be a little slower than things like Breaking Bad or The Sopranos because it's almost novelistic in its approach, but the end result is worth it. It has some of my favorite characters in any fiction. Does have a plotline that strains credulity in the final season but it doesn't tar the show too much, imo and makes sense with what they were going for.

Sopranos is probably the GOAT, but Twin Peaks is a close second for me.

Still running? Maybe the Expanse. It's like anti-Star Trek or like Star Trek of the Bell Riots never happened and humanity remained capitalist. Also has some good leftist shit in it. The OPA is full of different tendencies and the class struggle is really well explored.

Snowfall is pretty good too, great show about how the CIA just absolutely fucked everyone with the crack epidemic they created.

3% just finished its last season and is probably one of the more underrated/unwatched shows in recent years. Absolutely fantastic exploration of class struggle through the lense of a post apocalyptic society with the bourgeoisie relying on the proletarians for reproduction and a revolutionary group called the Cause that works to smash the cycle of exploitation and bring about communism.

Oh my god it's so beautiful. I can't imagine a better send off. Lynch is truly an unbelievable visionary.
