I really need to get back into Hades. It's by far the best roguelike of its type, but I feel like I'm so burned out on roguelikes
I'm trying to beat my second run. Beating Hades the first time was such a good feeling.
NICE! Personally my favorite builds are the bow with the Hera aspect running a Artemis crit attack and Athena magic, The Adamant rail with the triple special hammer bonus and as many Zeus upgrades to attack as I can get, and the sword with the Excalibur aspect running Aphrodite attack and Demeter special to stack the dual debuff and max damage reduction. With the bow you focus on constantly moving to get optimal spike damage crits combined with stacked spell damage. The Rail is basically the opposite you are always attacking as the Zeus attack bonus benefits more from attack speed than base damage, jolt and other lightning bonuses are just icing on the cake, the triple special is nice for clearing and area denial. The Excalibur build gets massive base damage, Aphrodite has the biggest base damage bonus to attack, and benefits from the two debuff talent. Try and get as many damage reduction talents as you can Aphrodite has tons, Demeter has a really good one that also boosts damage, and Dionysus has a couple as well. If you are lucky with boons and get the healing on attack damage hammer bonus you can literally just tank Hades down in a dps race, its actually pretty funny.
Congrats! Such a great game, pretty sure I beat it first with the shield, I find the twin fists really hard to use.
Keep playing, there's a ton of awesome content still to go!
Nice work! Now you can start playing game lol...I realized after my first clear how extensive the endgame content is, but it's very addicting and a fantastic game (and I normally don't care for roguelikes).
I beat it first with bow, I believe I had the hammer upgrade that changed it to rapid fire, combined with some heavy +% damage boons and probably Athena dash.
A few opinions:
Athena dash is probably the best standalone boon in the game. Almost all attacks can be deflected, including most melee ones, and it's an invaluable skill for surviving the last two boss fights. Picking up this boon probably doubles my chance of completing a run.
The Demeter and Artemis duo boon is super OP and just melts bosses. That got me my first shield clear, I barely used my actual weapon and was just casting most of the time. There's also Demeter boons that increase the uptime of the cast and adds chill to it.
Zeus's chain lightning attack is fantastic on the rail and fists. It's hard to get the right combo, but even better is the Poseidon attack and then the Poseidon and Zeus duo - the bad thing is that if you don't manage to get the duo boon later, Poseidon attack on these two weapons sucks by itself.
Other than that, just experiment and see what works for you. Weak, fast firing weapons = flat damage increase boons (Zeus, Dio, Ares), strong and slower weapons = +% damage boons (most of the others).
Athena dash is so good. If I'm using the sword though I like Athena on attack and Artemis on dash.
I actually beat it with the fists too, I was really surprised because I initially thought the fists had to be the worst.
But yep, turns out being able stuck enemies into your special, destroy them, and block attacks all in one move is super OP and super fun. Congrats! Keep grinding out those escapes, it only gets better from here!
Try unlocking the bow with the seeking special. Normal attacks mark enemies, special homes in.
You can get:
- Extra arrows per special (Titan blood)
- Extra arrows per special (hammer)
- Extra damage per consecutive special arrow hit
- Crit
- Artemis seeking arrows
- Aphrodite/Artemis duo crit boon
- Aphrodite normal attack
- Faster attack
That will rip Hades apart. DPS off the charts. Your one auto attack marks special homing plus it gives a charm debuff, which increases damage to target via the duo boon.
Also fun:
- Rail (the machine gun)
- faster attack
- infinite ammo
- zeus lightning in normal attack
- artemis arrows per attack/special/cast
- other shit
Huge on hit damage to multiple targets
Gotta go with Zeus special if you are doing that Bow build. Flat lightning/attack+Jolt+double strike is brutal, it takes some reliance on RNGesus to get all the boons but if you do umagawd so much damage.
I beat it two days ago for the first time, I think it took me 48 tries. But after I did it once I was able to clear it with all the weapons except the worthless gun. I started a new game yesterday to see how fast I could get through. Made it to Hades by run four, I love that skill matters so much more then the power ups.
I'm so bad at that game. it's fun as hell, but I just don't really "get it". I really don't know what I'm doing with the power ups, and I just sorta pick whatever looks like the best without really reading too much into it.
haven't been able to beat meg yet...
(I also have god mode on now, so maybe that will help...)
Athena dash = easy mode so always pick that up if you can. It will teach you how to better dash through attacks as well, since that's the best way to deflect some projectiles back at enemies. My favorite thing to do with this boon is insta-kill the witches with the giant orbs by deflecting them back at them.
Then the general rule is fast firing, weak moves get boons that add a flat +damage like Zeus, Ares, and Dio, and the slow but powerful moves get +% damage, which is basically every other God.
I would advise looking up the "skill trees" for boons, so you know what has to be picked to have a chance at duo and legendary boons, which are usually the best in the game. Generally until very late in the game when you have a ton of the fated dice from the mirror, it's best to just roll with your first few boons and try to build off of them instead of forcing a build.
Same here. The advice I've got is to rely on Athena's deflect abilities and really focus on the way the enemies behave before focusing on how to dispatch them. I'm getting better but I can't get myself to focus on stuff much anymore, so a game that requires persistence is difficult for me to even sit down and play.
Early on you should be playing ranged, and trying to stay away from stuff. Melee requires knowing enemy patterns more.
