  • I have this funny feeling that the Naxalites and movements like MAS are going to spearhead global communist revolution. The brigades of explicitly Maoist feminists resisting gangrape and organizing massive strikes, while having folk songs made of their struggle, are the things revolutions are made of.

I don't want to be too hopeful but the accounts I've read do give me some.

  • I think you can hold both that the attempts at Western "democratization" in China are a cynical, imperialist political ploy to destabilize and discredit a competitor AND that the current construction of Chinese socialism has nothing to do with socialism, and that the Chinese state is not attempting to build socialism whatsoever.

Before the China stans call my some ignorant Anglo, please explain to my ignorant Yankee ass how China is building socialism. I recognize that in terms of global capitalist domination, it is FAR preferable to have China as the world's superpower rather than the US empire and it's western European satellites. I sincerely hope China can subvert US domination. But I have seen no evidence that China is actually building socialism and empowering the working class and displaced peoples at the expense of the capitalist class. How can a country that allows billionaires to exist while it's working population continues to suffer under (granted conditions are gradually improving) capitalist domination claim to be advancing socialism?

  • As someone that hasn't been paying attention to the minutiae of COVID vaccines, and will not spend time dOiNg My OwN rEsEaRcH to find out, is there anyone who does know if there is any validity to the concerns?

I can imagine after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the imposition of capitalism that regulations over public safety may have taken a backseat.

Don't think of how "useful" you are to people you love and who love you. That's the mindset of my own father - and he's an abusive racist, borderline fascist. He sees everything in terms of utility and has never had a relationship he didn't view as a transaction. Don't take that tack - it's toxic af and destroys relationships.

Just be there in the moment with him, and try to enjoy life with him. Unless your dad is like mine, he will appreciate that more than any notion of how "useful" you are.

Edit: think of something you both enjoyed doing in the past. Maybe some cherished memory you can recreate, or make something special for him. Even if you suck at whatever it is, he will recognize the effort and appreciate it

Yuuuup we would have been better off without the union. Aside from the security afforded by no longer being at-will, which is a hugely significant factor no doubt, almost everything stayed the same or got worse on wages and benefits

Yeah I have read thru it. There's no language for this situation nor is there anything ancillary that could help. They just wanted to get the contract ratified ASAP.

I haven't reached out to my reps boss cuz I believe that would be the director. I should find out what the grievance process is.

    Have you read this book?

Edit: wait.. so I said that there were no soviet billionaires and your response is a single book titled Soviet Millionaires? I can't even find a review of this book. Does this pass as research?

One of the parent comments was literally

these kinds of ignorant sophistry rubs me in the same wrong way as when a chud starts bellowing how nazi germany was a socialist state.

Please tell me you're joking or trolling me

EDIT 2: WHY WOULD YOU LINK TO AMAZON WHEN YOU CAN LINK TO THE ENTIRE TEXT FOR FREE?

Edit 3: you should read that pamphlet. The notion that wealthy collective farmers have anything in common with the transnational billionaire class of our neoliberal capitalist hellworld is absolutely laughable

Yeah so then how does this still fit within a socialist framework? It's a strategy which is likely to directly contribute in aiding it's class enemies. Assuming that hasn't already happened.

I do have critical support for CPC but not on socialist grounds. But rather on the grounds of challenging the hegemony of American liberal capitalism, with an eye toward leadership on climate change and lifting billions out of poverty. But I'm not convinced that they're moving toward socialism. Maybe you can recommend some literature which could convince me?

I'm far, far more convinced that we are desperate to be hopeful for anything that looks like progress for humanity and justice for the working class .

Modern China is not the USSR immediately after the Tsar. The material conditions are different. And the USSR didn't have billionaires. Relatively privileged party officials, but no billionaires. I don't see how allowing the proliferation of billionaires in any way aids in the development of a country toward socialism.

“a capitalist driven economy under socialist direction and a DotP, used to get to a point where Socialism can survive without engaging in siege tactics”.

Could you expand on that more?

It seems to me that the proliferation of billionaires with close ties to party officials - or are party officials themselves - not only further entrenches capital, but frustrates the ability to escape the siege.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable can enlighten me, but wtf is with the love for Dengism?

"THE CARICATURE OF DENG AS A TYRANT IS UNFAIR" -Henry Kissinger in WaPo, August 1st 1989

Milton Friedman referred to Dengist reforms as "the most hopeful period of the Chinese experiment" during his second visit in 1988. -Two Lucky People: Memoirs

    Y'all keep some weird company
