Best of luck! I don't interact much, but your comments and posts have consistently been top quality and given me a lot to think about. You've got a talent for putting words to ideas I've only been able to vaguely grasp towards, so even as mostly a lurker I know that you'll be missed, but someone's got to do the hard work of raising the next generation's posters.

Would love to give your previous novel(s) a try if you'd let me know where to buy them.

  • Imagine a world where IEPs included speech therapy. I can find a lisp or a stutter endearing, but I know for a lot of people it's a huge source of embarrassment and social anxiety. If there's a term for the manner of speech he's using I don't know it, but I have heard it a lot from almost exclusively guys, and most if not all seemed to have some difficulties with socialization. I'd be curious to know if there's a casual connection either direction there, as I could see how having fewer face to face conversations, especially in early development, would make it harder to learn to produce the full range of sounds needed for speech in a natural and comfortable way. And how likewise having difficulty producing speech in a natural and comfortable manner would make one shy away from interactions requiring it.

At least when I was using livejournal I had to learn to use some HTML to make my profile a garish eyesore. Part of me misses that level of customization, but maybe only because I didn't bother with myspace so I didn't see the hell that could become first hand. I find the uniformity of a Facebook or Twitter feed visually a lot more sterile and a lot of that has to do with advertising. My Facebook feed turning increasingly into ads or posts from pages I don't follow has made it more and more difficult to actually use it to keep up with people--which is ostensibly the purpose--but until a decent competitor arises what else is there?

    1. Get one of the dispensers with the large jug.
    2. Only allow the kids to drink at the dispenser so any spills are contained to a designated area that can be kept clear. Use small paper cups to further limit the amount of possible spilled water.

Those concerns were comically easy to address. I really expected it to be more about the kids using water or bathroom breaks to run out the clock and avoid the math practice, which you have to address on more of a case by case basis.

  • I wonder what the lead and cadmium content of the transphobic chocolate is. I assume all of their products are low quality as the grift seems to be to make a version of whatever the latest Woke Item is. I don't know if there are that many buyers for this, but I interpret their mindset to be more like sports or idol group fans who buy lots of merch to show what a fan they are. The quality is not the primary concern. Just, in this case, what they're primarily concerned with is signaling is that they're a fan of the imperialist white supremacist capitalist patriarchy.

Love to all my trans comrades. You deserve a world much better than this, and I have learned so much from listening to trans people and am so thankful for your existence. I can only recognize transphobic dog whistles for what they are because of what I have learned from my comrades on Hexbear and elsewhere. While I'm just one person, I am doing my best to make it known that my friends and family that they cannot be transphobic without getting an ear full from me. I've been really disappointed in the ones who have chosen to be Treat Defenders instead of allies, but it also makes me feel like I've made the right choice in not telling them I'm not straight. Thankfully most of my friends are on the same page, and I can be open with them, but I worry that I can't trust my family anymore.

  • Yeah, I want citations on these claims. Screenshots of her posts and what sounds like the most inane "bullying" by internet standards probably wouldn't make her look good though so I doubt we'll get them. Hell, I consider ":logout:, dumbass" to be downright polite.

Not only are they terribly distracting but most of them are really just bullying us because insecurities seem to be a really effective way to move product. Most of what I see these days is some variation of you're fat, ugly, poor, dumb, lonely, etc. Regardless of the truth of those descriptors, constant exposure to bullying like this is making us all worse off. It really should be something we don't allow in public spaces, and pointing the harm done by the proliferation of ads out to those who have grown accustomed to the background noise is good.
