  • Tell me you haven't read any serious report about the situation in Uyghurstan (can we please drop the chinese "new territory" colonial designation? I don't think it helps anyone, including the Chinese position) without telling me you never read a serious report about the situation in Uyghurstan. There are several identified cases of the use of slave labor, but there are also lots of companies that had credible audits to show that at least on a superficial level they treat everyone fairly - and a huge chunk of places where the situation is as clear as mud.

  • In general I agree with you, but reality is also more nuanced. A blanket boycott can often harm the people you want to protect. A common question in the debate about Palestine and Uyghurstan and boycotts is what to do about companies that give equal opportunities to people from the targeted communities - i.e. companies that give jobs in the same terms to both Israelis and Palestinians or the Han Chinese and Uyghur people.

  • Their president, said that the prime minister was misunderstood, and that he only meant that Poland just wouldn't share the newer shinier weapons - which is not actually a new position for Poland. Even before that their foreign ministry was caught off guard because nothing had been discussed at the government level. So this was just an outburst from Morawiecki that needs to be understood in the context of the Polish elections and the PiS trying to appease ultra nationalist farmers without doing anything meaningful.

  • I wouldn't say unfortunately. Trademark is an important customer protection mechanism, because it allows you to know what to expect from a product or service - even communist countries have trademarks for this reason. For example, if some browser is called Firefox you have the expectation that it allows you to install an ad blocker and if it's named Chrome you have the expectation it... backs up all your personal data in Google's servers, for clothing it's important to know if you are buying something from a brand that makes durable clothing or if it's discardable crap like Primark, and for professional products the difference between a reputable manufacturer and a bad one can literally mean life or death. What's unfortunate is that companies like Disney and Sanrio commodified trademark by building brand cults.

It isn't extreme until you realize it forces game companies to collect and share a bunch of monetizable personal data sorry "telemetry" from their users, and will probably preclude installing games offline.
