  • I love things like this. Movies that don't see the light of day until years after filming. Have you seen New York Ninja? Shot in 1984 and shelved until someone found it in like 2020. It was like 8 hours of film with no sound, full script, storyboards, or actor credits. A director had to edit it down to movie length, reconstruct a script by reading the actors lips, and have all the ADR done.

  • Hmmmm movies I do like. Terry Gilliams stuff is good (Brazil, 12 Monkeys, Time Bandits, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas). Some classic stuff like Double Indemnity, Some Like It Hot, The Great Escape, 12 Angry Men, lots of Hitchcock stuff like North by Northwest or Rear Window. Big fan of the old school Godzilla stuff as well. Comedies are great, anything Mel Brooks (Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles) or Leslie Nielsen (Airplane) or John Candy movies like Uncle Buck or Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Some more modern rom coms like While You Were Sleeping or Much Ado About Nothing. A lot of Coen brothers stuff and Wes Anderson. Idk Christopher Nolans stuff just doesn't have characters or drama that draws me in. It's like big set pieces and super serious white dudes and idk it just doesn't do anything for me. Memento was a good mystery and interesting concept and Interstellar is probably his next best movie but everything else is just like movies for people who use Letterboxd.

  • I liked Memento but the rest of his work is basically forgettable to me. I saw all the Batman movies and I imagine if I gave a shit about Batman or cape shit in general I would have liked it but as it stands eh. Dunkirk put me to sleep and I haven't seen Oppenheimer but I imagine it would put me to sleep even faster. Inception was kinda cool when I first saw it but when I really think about it's not very interesting either. Interstellar had a few interesting bits but once again mostly just boring. The Prestige I could barely pay attention to and the twist I just didn't care about. All in all most of his shit is just completely uninteresting to me.

  • Oh hey I have that too. And yeah that's the thing about removing your inhibitions. I spend so little time talking to people and it can start to all spill put once I get drunk. I usually smoke weed when I drink which kinda helps me rein in that tendency

  • Not that weird. There is a lot of perceived value in certain features that there is a level of cultural consensus about but that changes a lot too over time and between sub cultures and everyone has their own personal taste. The chuds are all drooling over Sydney Sweeneys breasts but for me personally there is something weird about her face that I can't put my finger on. And I much prefer brown hair over blonde so all in all the new "it girl" is not attractive to me at all.

Context matters too. Keira Knightley in Pirates of the Carribean? Stunning. Pirate queen of my heart. Keira Knightley in Pride and Prejudice? Boooo. Boring. Why does this version exist. The BBC miniseries with Colin Firth was much better. Same thing with guys. Orlando Bloom in Pirates of the Carribean. Meowww. Orlando Bloom in Lord of the Rings? Also boring. I might actually just have a thing for pirates come to think of it 🤔

Shit man we don't drink because it tastes good we drink because that's how you get drunk. If they invented a way to do it with a pill or nasal spray or a dermal patch I'd be game (boofing is a hard pass tho). Straight alcohol tastes like ass especially beer that's why I mostly drink sweet wines like moscato or a cocktail with lots of mixer.

I am extremely anxious, insecure, inhibited, self conscious and antisocial so I basically can't exist in a social situation unless I get at least a little tipsy. I consider it a necessity for socializing. If you don't have that problem then no reason to force yourself to drink. Lots of people don't drink. I also don't know any violent alcoholics and I don't get hangovers so I don't have a lot of the negative associations with drinking that many people have.

And there's a huge leap between bar hopping and drinking alone in your room. You can have a romantic evening sharing a bottle of wine with your partner, you can have share a few drinks with friends around a campfire, you can treat yourself to a little can of something after a day of yard work or a long hike. All nice enjoyable little moments. People have been drinking wine forever for a reason. It's just nice. But if it's not your thing that's okay and you shouldn't feel bad. Some people might try to make you feel bad about it but that's just their own insecurity about how much they themselves drink more than anything I think.

  • Hard to argue with. I'm 28 and work at a warehouse and the guys I'm friendly with on a surface level just to kinda be personable will say some shockingly homophobic and misogynistic things if you listen to them talk long enough. Like I can't be friends with these guys, not really.

Conversely, I met this really cool guy the other day at a rockhound meet up who was super chill and left. He goes diving for jade in Big Sur and was super into scallops so I traded him some marine shell fossil conglomerates and lapidary slabs and polished agate nodules for chunks of jade and some weed. Me and my partner just vibed with him and his buddy and it was great. Guys that cool are few and far between unfortunately.

  • Every time I see the "Palestinians aren't real before X date" discourse mentioned I will bring up the fact that my grandfather was born in Jerusalem in 1930 and on his birth record it lists his father's nationality as Palestinian. In 1930. Fucking Zionists
