Ignorance is bliss. If you're a liberal, you get to be the default. You get to believe that the world is just. You get to believe that there are people with tangible power out there who are genuinely doing good in the world. You get to agree with average people about almost everything, and the only things left to disagree on are so minor that they rarely get in the way of your relationships.
