I want to be clear that I hold no ill will towards ya'll, and I have been moving towards veganism myself. I was curious what the official vegan opinion™ about halal and kosher meats, and how that relates to veganism. From what I have seen, animals raised by halal and kosher farmers tend to be treated significantly better and with more respect than the mainstream meat industry. Mucho gracias.
In any sector of the meat industry, animals that want to live will be forcibly killed. Obviously it is preferable for animals not to spend their entire lives in agony, but vegans reject any commodification or exploitation of animals, regardless of their living conditions. A similar situation (in my opinion) to this would be the following: There's an innocent person in front of you and you are given 3 options: -Take the person as prisoner, torture them for 2 weeks, then kill them. -Take the person as prisoner, provide them with decent living conditions for 2 weeks, then kill them. -Leave the person alone. It's a pretty obvious choice, isn't it? Now change "person" to cow/chicken/pig/fish and make "2 weeks" their lifetime. Sure, the 2nd option causes less suffering than the 1st, but the 3rd option is the only way you avoid deliberately causing a sentient being to suffer.
