        I'm guessing something like "she ran less quickly." Less modifies quickly, which is an adverb. So less would therefore also be an adverb, not an adjective, since adjectives modify nouns or other adjectives.

          Also adverbs can be used on adjectives like in 'she is very tall'. So I think less is maybe still an adjective here?

              Turns out very and tall both count as adverbs. They actually carry a lot more weight than I thought.

                    Were the tiers themselves given letter names? Because if A is B tier, than what does it mean for something to be A tier?
