        Reject modernity, return to terminal

        Edit: for real though, we should have stopped with Minitel and just optimized the Fuck out of the search algorithms.

        agreed and here's a hot take: someone posting on a socialist website to defend a multimillion dollar organization from people directing often completely reasonable criticism at it is some extremely silly libshit

      that looks like seamonkey, you might be interested in that if you don't already know about it. It's a continuation of the mozilla internet suite (email client, irc chat, web brower, rss aggregator, whatever else they put in there) and it's still definitely got that 90s/early 2000s style

      It's JS engine seems to be a bit behind but it works surprisingly well with youtube and google and other usual websites

        the problem with seamonkey is the extension support. stuff like the Paywall Bypass doesn't work on it and that's what has kept me from switching over to it.

      Ah, happy I'm not the only one - I use ESR Firefox and spend tremendous amounts of time tweaking the userChrome.css file regularly to make sure my browser looks exactly the same as 10 years ago (including multi-row tabs and a status bar - perhaps the most important features for me). Though admittedly not as dated looking as your screenshot.

        past updates didnt break it, but unfortunately the newest one with the big UI change makes tabs not appear, sad!!

    I haven't updated yet but i'm gonna be a boomer here and say i hate when firefox does UI changes. I stick to firefox for a reason, and its because I'm very accustomed to the way things look and where buttons are. They always fuck it up.

      This feels more like a theme overhaul. All the buttons are in the same spots, it just looks better.

      This is blender 2.8 -> 2.9

      not 2.7 -> 2.8

    If you're like me and you like a slimmer tab bar and you're willing to jump through a couple hoops you can still have it.

    First you have to enable the browser.compactmode.show flag by putting about:config into your URL bar and pressing enter. Then you can search for the flag and click the little button with two opposing arrows on the right side, and the "false" should change to "true"

    Now you have to relaunch your browser. Then you can find the "compact mode" option in the toolbar options page. You can get there by pressing and releasing the alt key (this will make a menu bar appear at the top) then click "view", hover "Toolbars" and click on "Customize Toolbar"

    Finally the option will be in a dropdown box on the bottom left with the word "density" Select "Compact mode" there

    Enjoy your 15 additional pixels :free-real-estate:

    I think it's fine now and was fine before but I can't pinpoint exactly what has changed

    EDIT: I just messed around with the themes and made it purple and I like it a lot now

      Seriously. Everything's in the same spot, but the tabs look like they're floating now. It's not like when Facebook or Youtube makes their website intentionally worse in order to make you click on more things.

      Yeah I really wish it wasn't because compact proton looks great (even if I prefer normal myself)

      it's so funny to me how they don't realize they're just a vocal minority

      the amount of people on there who are like "why would they do this, can't they see everyone hates it??" like my dude there's a world outside of reddit

        i think it's more people upset that they're having control taken away from them and feedback being ignored. there are legitimate usability issues with the new design especially for the vision impaired, and complaints have fallen on deaf ears.

        it would be fine if they made it possible to revert to the old design in the settings but they're removing that option with the next two months or so as well. if you like the new design good for you, don't be an asshole and act like everyone else has to like it too

    No it isn't. Stop making constant UI changes and breaking customization FFS.

    Just because you like it and it some redditors don't doesn't mean you should put everyone who doesn't like it on blast.

    I'm mostly fine with it myself, but I need the tab separators back.

      this goes for a lot of things, you cant just make your opinion "reverse reddit" and be correct all the time.

          kind of ableist tbh my dad has poor eyesight and he called me today yelling about how his browser is hard to read now. arrogance over shit like this is beyond stupid, not everyone likes change for the sake of change and their opinions are equally valid as anyone else's

    They finally skinned the popup boxes, bookmark folder drop-downs, and dialogue boxes. They're still missing a new one for the "Open with..." type dialogue.

    there's too much padding everywhere and it's extraordinarily cluttered. my bookmarks menu used to fit on my screen (1080p monitor so it' snot like I don't have any room) and now i have to scroll down for like 10 whole seconds for the whole thing to load.

    same for the hamburger menu and every other menu. they don't fit in with the Windows default menus and it looks horrible. the entire chrome at the top of the screen takes up way more space than it used to as well, especially if you still use the menubar which I do

    Love it. Kinda reminds me of Blender. I think 2.8+ was an amazing re-design. Especially as they shift to a more node/modifier based system. The hinting highlights are super useful.

    Did they finally make tabbed pages for downloads, history, and bookmarks yet instead of 2005-era pop-ups?

    It looks the same to me but the tabs are transparent. I don't like that part as it makes it harder to read otherwise it's okay I suppose.
