slapping an individualistic approach on a grand societal problem

Disagree that it's individualistic. It is collective.

If we can't get people to stop killing each other by failing to do something as simple as wear a mask how do you think we're going to get people to join in on any other mass collective action? It's a grand societal problem yes, but it is incumbent upon us to all collectively do our part. And the same is true for literally going out and fighting the state. Everyone has to be convinced to collectively do their part and take action.

We can not reject the necessity for a discussion about individual motivation to act being a part of a collective movement. You can't terminate action based on "well this is something the government should be pushing not us" purely on the basis that it pushes responsibility to the individual. We are all, individually, collectively responsible. You can't just delete the individual entirely.

I'm not trying to delete the individual, or even saying that masks aren't necessary/useful.

I am railing against being pissy about masks (i.e. this post), probably in no small part because I am numb to it after being a service worker in this pandemic for the past year. We should have stayed home longer dammit
